Ian Yassa

Ian is a passionate student leader, youth advocate, and cultural connector committed to building inclusive opportunities for minority communities both locally and globally. He is currently pursuing a degree in Construction Science at Prairie View A&M University, where he serves as President of the NAMC (National Association of Minority Contractors) Student Chapter. In this role, he works to create pathways for Black and minority students to access and lead within the construction and development industries.
On campus, he also served as Parliamentarian of the African Student Association and sit on the Executive Board of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). Through these positions, he has led initiatives focused on cultural pride, professional development, and academic empowerment for underrepresented students.
Beyond campus, he's the founder of a cultural platform called Africans in America (AIA), which aims to reconnect members of the African diaspora with their heritage through storytelling, education, and community engagement. He's also actively involved in launching a Youth Empowerment Center in Ghana, which will equip young people with resources in leadership, entrepreneurship, and education.
His journey has been shaped by service, collaboration, and a deep commitment to uplifting others. He's been honored to receive dean's list accolades throughout his college career, Junior of the Year, and was best golf player of the season for his school's D-1 team. He takes pride in using his platform to inspire young leaders to embrace their identity, serve their communities, and boldly step into spaces of influence.
